That's rapid adoption by any measure, and perhaps an oddity among technology products.
The widely-accepted view is that a new technology product initially appeals to enthusiasts who are very different from the early ranks of mainstream users.
The theory tells us that product attributes important to early adopters are not the same set of attributes important to mainstream users. But if Google+ really has blasted from early adopters to early mainstream in a matter of weeks, its backers would not have had time to adjust the marketing pitch to "cross the chasm."
In fact, it seems Google+ already has crossed the chasm in record time.
