Rural Broadband in U.K. to Get BBC Funds

Britain is getting ready to spend £530 million fund to help bring a minimum of 2 Mbps broadband service to rural areas within four years. In a move that has some parallels in the U.S. market, the funds are being diverted from the BBC. In the U.S. market, broadcasters and mobile companies are looking to benefit from reclaimed spectrum vacated as part of the transition to high-definition TV broadcasting.

An additional further £300 million has been promised after 2015, the Guardian reports.
