80% of Small and Medium Sized Businesses Will Invest in Mobile Marketing in 2011

borrell1By the end of 2011, approximately 80 percent of small and medium-sized businesses in the United States will pony up and invest in some form of mobile marketing, Borrell Associates estimates.

Some 83 percent of respondents surveyed by Borrell Associates reported they either plan to invest or already have invested a portion of their yearly marketing budget into the mobile channel.

A majority of respondents admit that mobile marketing now captures at least 20 percent of their total marketing budget for the year.

Those figures might seem aggressive, but Borrell Associates knows the local advertising business quite well, and company executives have said in the past they base their projections strictly on what business owners and managers are telling them. The "scary" projections ("scary" in the sense of being unusually robust), which might seem quite optimistic compared to some other estimates, simply reflect what respondents are telling the firm.
