In the second quarter of 2010 just eight percent of prepaid phones were smart phones, but in the second quarter of 2011 that number jumped to 22 percent, NPD says.

20% of Devices Sold on Prepaid Plans
About 20 percent of new devices sold in the U.S. mobile market in the second quarter of 2011 were sold on prepaid plans, according to NPD. Sales of smartphones on prepaid plans also are growing.
