Skype: We Never Said We'll Be The Cheapest Calling Service
Skype could lower its rates to meet new competition from Google Voice, says Neil Stevens, Skype’s vice president and general manager of products and marketing. But quality might suffer, so Skype isn't thinking about a price adjustment. Also, Stevens says most of Skype’s recent calling growth stems from the sale of one-month to three-month subscriptions, which the company offers for prices ranging from $2.99 to $13.99 a month. Those unlimited use plans tend to insulate consumers from price changes elsewhere, he argues.
