Heartland unveils Square type payments dongle for Androids

Heartland Payment Systems is introducing a mobile-payment device for merchants called "Mobuyle" that works with any Android phone or tablet to handle customer card payments, and is positioned to compete with Square devices.

The Mobuyle device, which costs $75, will feature lower transaction fees to merchants than the Square device, which costs retailers 2.7 percent to 3.1 percent per transaction. The Mobuyle will cost perhaps 25 cents per transaction on the Heartland network.

Heartland services are used by 250,000 merchants in the U.S. market.
